Journey to Jerusalem
Jerusalem, Israel’s capital city holds important significance for Jewish, Muslim and Christian people. A unique and intriguing blend of old and new, the city’s architecture combines seamlessly to create this fascinating city full of historical sites and world-class monuments.
Journey to Jerusalem during our Discover Israel small group tour and spend four nights in the city exploring its wonders. Here’s how you’ll spend your time getting to know Jerusalem with us.
After a relaxing night at leisure, our first day in Jerusalem is spent discovering some of the city’s gems. We drive through the New City and visit the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament and High Court, before making our way to the foodie paradise of Mahane Yehuda Market. You can read more about our special experience in the market here, where we take our taste buds on a tour of the local, and very tasty, produce. Our afternoon is spent at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre. Here we pay our respects to the Jewish people affected during the time of the Holocaust in what is a sombre yet important visit. The evening is at leisure for us to explore the city on our own and find a local restaurant for dinner.
Jerusalem’s Old City is full of history and wonder and is ours to explore today during a guided tour. We step back in time and enter the walled city to discover its sights, visiting the likes of the Roman Cardo, the Herodian Quarter and the Western Wall. We learn about the diverse history of the people who have made Jerusalem what it is today as we wander through ancient architecture and narrow streets. Later, we continue on to nearby Bethlehem where we gain insight into the birthplace of Jesus visiting Rachel’s Tomb, the Church of Nativity and Mangers Square. This evening we’re in for a treat when we get to know the locals of Jerusalem over a traditional Shabbat dinner in a local family home. We share stories over dinner as we learn about the traditional cuisine and their way of life, leaving with new friendships and lasting memories.
Israel offers a landscape of varied beauty and Jeruslaem is the gateway to some of the country’s most spectacular sights. Today, we leave the bustling city behind and head into the desert. First up, we visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Masada, a fortress perched high above the Judaean Desert. We enjoy a tour of the fortress and spectacular desert views before making our way to the Dead Sea. Straddling the border between Israel and Jordan, the Dead Sea is the lowest spot on the Earth’s surface and here we have the opportunity to float in its salty waters before making our way back to Jerusalem.
Our small group tour offers an indepth journey not only through Jerusalem but through Tel Aviv, Haifa, Acre, Ginosar and Nazareth. For more information click here.
