The iconic Dead Sea is a magnificent natural attraction. The mineral content of the saltwater lake claims fame to the unique phenomenon of floating on water, it is impossible to sink! Laze the day away floating on the water and treat yourself to a Dead Sea mud treatment, its mud is popular for natural treatments.
Jordan is home to Petra, one of the Middle East’s greatest historical and architectural treasures. Spend the day exploring this fascinating city and have your own Indiana Jones moment as you uncover the incredible architecture and learn about the city’s history.
Welcome to Amman, Jordan’s capital city. Amman has been continuously inhabited since 6,000BCE and is the gateway to Jordan’s historic delights. Few ancient ruins remain in the crowded city, with the hilltop Citadel a highlight, offering sweeping views across the city.
After we arrive in Amman we discover the city on a tour. Our small group travels to the Citadel and impressive Roman Theater, and through old Amman. This evening we enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
Our small group departs Amman this morning on a full day sightseeing tour of the surrounding area. We begin at Jerash, one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities in the Middle East. Home to amazing ruins of temples, agora and colonnaded streets, we step back in time and experience a Roman Chariot show, gaining insight into this fascinating time in history.
We continue to Ajloun Castle where we explore the castle and its many towers, staircases and chambers. Built between 1184 and 1188, the ancient castle has sweeping views over the Jordan Valley.
This afternoon we visit a community center and connect with the locals. We see the work the center does to support the local community at the center’s Calligraphy House. Here, we are welcomed by a group of local women who will demonstrate the art of calligraphy. We learn about the Arabic alphabet before we pick up a quill and pot of ink and attempt to master the art of calligraphy ourselves.

One of the Middle East’s greatest historical and architectural treasures, Petra is a site to behold. The unique city, carved directly from red sandstone rockface, was a trade route for the silks of China, the spices of India and the incense of Arabia. Constructed around 100BCE, Petra is unlike any other place in the world.
We depart Amman after breakfast this morning for Petra. Along the way we visit Mount Nebo, where we stop and take in sweeping views across the Holy Land, and Madaba. Known as the City of Mosaics, Madaba is home to the impressive 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. We continue to Little Petra, known locally as Siq al-Barid. Also carved directly from the walls of sandstone rockface but encompassing a much smaller area than Petra, we stop in Little Petra for some sightseeing before continuing to Petra. We enjoy dinner at Al Qantarah restaurant this evening.
[Breakfast and Dinner]
We spend the day today discovering the wonder of Petra. We enter Petra through the Siq, an 800-meter-long gorge lined with soaring cliffs. Once through the eye of the needle, we explore this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site with time at the Treasury, Pharaoh’s Castle, the Triumphal Arch, the Amphitheatre and the Monastery. Half-built and half-carved into the rock, the beauty of the Hellenistic buildings combined with the strong cultural traditions of the Bidoul people make Petra a true bucket-list destination.
[Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner]
We travel to Wadi Rum this morning, where we are greeted with a traditional Bedouin musical performance in the spectacular red sand desert landscape. A ride through the desert in Jeeps acquaints us with the land before we explore Wadi Rum further by foot during a hike through the desert’s many rock formations.
We indulge in a traditional Bedouin lunch this afternoon. We learn more about the locals of Wadi Rum, their traditions and lifestyle, and enjoy a meal together in the middle of the desert.
[Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner]
Today we swap our desert landscape for a seaside one, as we travel from Wadi Rum to Aqaba. Located on the Red Sea, Aqaba is known for its clear waters and vibrant coral reefs.
We arrive in Aqaba and enjoy a city tour, taking in the highlights of this seaside city. Our afternoon is at leisure to enjoy an activity of our choice – a relaxing afternoon on the beach, a snorkel trip or a glass bottom boat tour of Aqaba’s coral reef.
Straddling the border between Israel and Jordan, the Dead Sea is the lowest spot on the Earth’s surface. With a mineral content topping out at 33%, the Dead Sea is an incredible natural attraction.
We make our way to the Dead Sea this morning and check in to our hotel. We indulge in a Dead Sea mud treatment and get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to float in the salty waters.
This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner together at a local restaurant.
