Cape Town

Welcome to Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Framed between mountains and the sea, Cape Town is an eclectic city often referred to as the cosmopolitan hub of Africa. With vibrant restaurants, a rich history and a variety of activities, Cape Town is a fascinating city to explore.

We meet our small group this evening for a welcome dinner at Gold Restaurant, a taste safari of a set 14 course Cape Malay and African menu accompanied by unique and interactive traditional entertainment.

Day 2

Cape Town

Today we embark on a city tour of Cape Town visiting the iconic sights and learning more about the city, its history and its people. Throughout our tour we explore the Malay Quarter, Cape Town’s city centre, Company Gardens, the South African Museum and, time permitting, the Castle of Good Hope. We uncover the vastness of the city; from cobblestone streets, colonial-style buildings, large botanical gardens and brightly coloured houses.

A highlight of our city tour will be a visit to Table Mountain, via the cableway, one of South Africa’s most prominent landmarks. Here, we witness the natural beauty of the mountain’s steep cliffs and rocky outcrops and its abundance of flora and fauna whilst taking in the stunning view of the city below us. After the tour we have the rest of the day to explore more of the city by ourselves.

Note

If we experience poor weather conditions, the cableway ride to Table Mountain will not take place.

Cape Peninsula

Cape Peninsula is a region of stunning scenery and breathtaking landscapes. Enjoy coastal views, wildlife spotting and more in the region.

Our small group excursion to Cape Peninsula today on a full day tour of the area. We drive along the Atlantic seaboard before a scenic cruise to Seal Island to witness the Cape Fur Seal colony in its natural habitat. We disembark our catamaran cruise and continue to Chapman’s Peak, considered to be one of the most stunning roadways in the world. Winding its way along the Atlantic, the short drive features 114 curves and boasts breathtaking views.

We continue to Cape Point Nature Reserve, before taking a ride in the Flying Dutchman Funicular up to the top of Cape Point for stunning panoramic views. The picturesque Simon’s Town is next where we stop for lunch at Black Marlin restaurant. After lunch, we continue to Boulder’s Beach where we have the chance to see rare African penguins before heading back to Cape Town via Fish Hoek, Klak Bay and Muizenberg.

Cape Town to Franschhoek

Welcome to the Winelands! Franschhoek is a quaint town located in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Known for its stunning scenery, world-class food and wine, and fantastic hospitality, Franschhoek was first established over 300 years ago and since, has transformed into a beautiful wine region.

Special Experience

On our journey to Franschhoek, we stop in Stellenbosch and enjoy a guided food walking tour of the town. This tasty discovery of the Cape’s traditional food and drinks is the perfect introduction to the Cape Winelands.

We continue to Franschhoek, making one last stop along the way at Drakenstein Correctional Centre, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. We arrive in Franschhoek in the late afternoon with some free time to explore the town’s main street.

Franschhoek to Knysna

One of the Southern Cape coast’s best-known holiday destinations, Knysna is a charming coastal town with a relaxed and laidback atmosphere. Situated between lush forests and a picturesque lagoon the town offers stunning natural beauty and an array of attractions and activities.

We rise early this morning to start our drive to Knysna. Along the journey we stop in Oudtshoorn at the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountain range. Known as the Ostrich capital of South Africa, Oudtshoorn is home to 400 Ostrich farms. We visit and tour the Safari Ostrich Farm before a traditional barbeque lunch featuring Ostrich steaks.

We continue to Knysna with free time this evening to explore the coastal town at our own leisure.

Knysna: Featherbed Island and Knysna Township

Featherbed Nature Reserve is a South African heritage site accessible by ferry only. We experience this natural paradise and learn about the reserve and its environment. Our Featherbed experience begins with a ferry cruise along the lagoon to arrive at the nature reserve. On arrival, we enjoy a 4WD tour through the reserve to the top of the Western Head and take in spectacular views of the lagoon, mountains and town of Knysna whilst learning about the history and ecology of the reserve. We then have the option of walking 2.2 kilometres downhill to our awaiting buffet lunch under the milkwood trees.

Special Experience

After lunch we make our way back to Knysna where we tour the Knysna Township and learn more about the local community. We meet with local shop owners and gain insight into the Xhosa culture.

Knysna to Port Elizabeth

This morning we travel to Port Elizabeth stopping along the way at Africa’s oldest and largest marine reserve, Tsitsikamma National Park. A photographer’s delight, the national park is home to a spectacular rugged coastline and is home to an abundance of flora and fauna. Next, it’s on to the town of Oudebosch where we enjoy lunch before visiting the Protea Farm and enjoy a guided tour to learn about the farm – its nursery, protea fields and packing shed. We enjoy our evening at leisure in Port Elizabeth.

Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg

We take a flight to Johannesburg this morning. Upon arrival we enjoy a guided tour of the city. We head to the residential neighbourhood of Orchards this morning and visit the former home of Mohandas Gandi, Satyagraha House. The future Mahatma developed his philosophy of passive resistance in this house during 1908 and 1909. Next, we visit the Apartheid Museum and step back into 20th century South Africa. We immerse ourselves in the story of the apartheid and learn about its rise and fall during our visit to the museum, which itself is a superb example of architectural design. We enjoy time at leisure this evening.

Johannesburg to Hazyview

We make our way to Hazyview this morning, located within the Mpumalanga province. Although one of South Africa’s smaller provinces, it packs a punch when it comes to incredible scenery and natural landscapes. We journey via the Panorama Route, a unique stretch of stunning scenery with some great photo opportunities. We stop at God’s Window viewpoint and descend into Graskop Gorge via a lift to immerse ourselves in the incredible scenery. We enjoy dinner at our lodge this evening.

Hazyview to Mjejane

Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s largest game parks home to the greatest species diversity in Africa, with more than 140 resident mammals. Game drives here are a plenty as we gain insight into the wonderful world of Africa’s wildlife. We journey to our lodge this morning, located in Mjejane, a private ‘Big Five’ game reserve within Kruger National Park. Situated on the banks of the Crocodile River, we’re surrounded by thousands of hectares of African wilderness, providing breathtaking views and experiences.

Special Experience

This morning we visit the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Located in the Umhloti Nature Reserve, the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary is home to chimpanzees that have been displaced from their natural habitats in Africa. We tour the sanctuary before continuing to Mjejane.

Upon arrival we enjoy the first of our game drives through the park, our first opportunity to explore Kruger National Park and get a taste of the excellent scenery and wildlife that Kruger boasts.

Mjejane: Kruger National Park

Explore Kruger National Park today across two game drives. With ample opportunity to witness some of nature’s finest, our day is full of magical moments as we explore Kruger and learn more about the fascinating species that call it home. Throughout the day keep an eye out for the ‘Big Five’ (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino) as well as zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, wild dog and vast antelope herds. We wake early for our first game drive returning to our lodge for breakfast and some free time. After lunch, we head out on our next game drive, returning to the lodge for dinner.

Mjejane to Johannesburg

Kruger has one last game drive in store for us this morning, a fitting farewell to our time in South Africa. Our tour concludes after our game drive when we are transferred back to Johannesburg. We bid farewell to our new friends and to the beauty of South Africa.
